テーマは「マスメディアからソーシャルメディアへ〜個人史で振り返る激動の半世紀」です。この半世紀は、人類史上まれにみる激動の時期でした。一日一日の変化は僅かなため、なかなかその事実に気づきにくいのですが、たとえば、前回の東京オリンピックが開催された1964年のころ、メディアの主役は新聞でした。そして、この「東京オリンピック1964」を契機に、多くの人々がテレビを購入し、以来、マスメディアの主役は、新聞からテレビへと大きく変わっていったのです。では、今回、コロナ禍によって1年延期され、2021年に開催された「東京オリンピック2020」の場合はどうでしょうか？　今や、新聞やテレビでその速報を知るという人は、ほとんどいなくなりました。メディアの主役はスマートフォンとなり、いつでもどこでもスマートフォンを持ち歩き、頻繁にチェックするソーシャルメディア上で速報を知るという人が圧倒的大多数となったのです。こうしたマスメディアからソーシャルメディアへといった劇的なパダライムシフトを引き起こしたものは何でしょうか？　いうまでもなくパーソナルコンピュータ、インターネット、スマートフォンといった一連の革新的な情報技術がもたらした、いわゆる「IT革命」です。今回の「Global Digicon Salon 013」では、つねにこの「IT革命」の最前線で活躍してきたKanda News Network Inc.代表の神田敏晶さんと、そうした神田さんの生き方をよく知るデジタルハリウッド大学教授の橋本大也さんとともに、「神田さんの個人史で振り返る激動の半世紀」についてディスカッションしていきます。そして、ソーシャルメディアがさらに大きく発展しようとしている中、我々ひとりひとりはどうこの新しいメディアに関わっていったらいいのかということについて考えていきたいと思います。

The 13th “Global Digicon Salon 013” will be held on a global scale on August 16, 2021 (Mon) 20: 00-22: 00 (Japan time), and August 16, 2021 (Mon) 04:00-06:00 (LA Time). (Please note that it will be from 4 am on Monday unlike usual). The theme will be “From Mass media to Social media – Looking back this turbulent half-century from a personal history.” This half-century was a rare and turbulent period in human history. It’s hard to notice that fact because the changes are small day by day, but for example, in 1964, when the last Tokyo Olympics were held, the leading role of the media was newspapers. And, with this “Tokyo Olympics 1964” as an opportunity, many people bought TV, and since then, the leading role of the mass media has changed drastically from newspapers to TV. But what about the “Tokyo Olympics 2020” held in 2021, which was postponed for one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic? Now, few people know the breaking news in newspapers or on TV. Smartphones have become the protagonists of the media, and the overwhelming majority of people carry their smartphones with them anytime, anywhere and get breaking news on social media, which they check frequently. What caused this dramatic shift from Mass media to Social media? Needless to say, it is the so-called “IT revolution” brought about by a series of innovative information technologies such as personal computers, the Internet, and smartphones. At this “Global Digicon Salon 013”, Toshiaki Kanda-san, the representative of Kanda News Network Inc., who has always been active at the forefront of this “IT revolution”, and Daiya Hashimoto-san, a professor at Digital Hollywood University who knows Kanda-san how to live like that. We will discuss “Looking back this turbulent half-century from Kanda-san’s personal history”. And as Social media is about to develop even further, we would like to think about how each of us should be involved in this new media.
