パーソナルコンピュータ、スマートフォンの世界標準を確立し、「世界を変えた男」スティーブ・ジョブズが2011年10月5日に亡くなってから10年の歳月が流れました。ジョブズは、一代でアップルを時価総額世界一企業に育て上げた「ベンチャーの鑑」でもあります。アップルが時価総額世界一企業となったのは、ジョブズの死の直前でした。それから10年。アップルの時価総額は当時の7倍。270兆円にも達し、今なお時価総額世界一企業であり続けるとともに、世界最先端をゆくリーディング・カンパニーであり続けています。
一体、どうしてそのようなことが可能だったのでしょうか？　一体、この事実の背景には何があるのでしょうか？　ジョブズは何故、世界を変えることができたのか？　それは、とりわけ現状を憂い、世界を変えたい、変えなければならないと考えている人々にとって、多くの示唆を与えてくれるテーマでしょう。
今回のGlobal Digicon Salonでは、『あの日ジョブズは』（https://amzn.to/39GTys4 ）を上梓した著者の片山恭一さんと写真家の小平尚典さんをメインゲストとしてお招きし、まずは出版記念講演をしていただきます。そして、アップル関連はもちろん、IT関連でたくさんの著書をお書きになっているフリーランス ITジャーナリスト兼コンサルタントの林信行さん、テクノロジーライターの大谷和利さんにパネリストに加わっていただき、「世界を変えた男」をさまざまな角度から振り返っていきたいと思います。なお、パネルディスカッションには、リード大学時代、ジョブズの友人となり、一緒にインド旅行をし、Apple I、Apple II、Macintosh開発に多大な貢献をしたダニエル・コトケさんもサプライズ・ゲストとして参加していただける予定です。

It’s been 10 years since Steve Jobs died on October 5, 2011, the man who changed the world and set the world standard for personal computers and smartphones. Jobs was also the “Venture Bible” that made Apple the number one company in the world by market capitalization. Apple first became the world’s number one company by marketcapitalization shortly before Jobs’ death. It’s been 10 years since then. Apple’s market capitalization is seven times that of the time. With a market capitalization of 270 trillion yen, it continues to be the world’s largest company with a market capitalization and the world’s most advanced leading company.
How could such a thing be possible? What is behind this fact? Why was Jobs able to change the world? It would be a theme that gives a lot of suggestions, especially for many people who are worried about the current situation, want to change the world, and think that they must change.
At this Global Digicon Salon, we will invite Kyoichi Katayama-san, the author of “That Day Jobs,” and Naonori Kohira-san, the photographer, as the main guests to give a commemorative lecture. Then with two panelists who have written many books related to IT as well as Apple, Nobuyuki Hayashi-sa and Kazutoshi Otani-san, we would like to look back on the “man who changed the world”. In this panel discussion, Daniel Kottke-san, who became a friend of Jobs when he was at Reed College and traveled to India with Jobs and made a great contribution to the development of Apple I, Apple II, and Macintosh, also will participate as a surprise guest.

1959年愛媛県生まれ。九州大学農学部卒、同大学院修士課程を経て博士課程中退。大学院在学中の1986年、『気配』が文學界新人賞を受賞する。代表作は、故郷の宇和島市を舞台にした『世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ』。2001年4月に出版され、2004年5月には発行部数が国内単行本最多記録の306万部となった。著書は、『きみの知らないところで世界は動く』『ジョン・レノンを信じるな』『死を見つめ、生をひらく』など多数。2021年8月、『あの日ジョブズは』（ https://amzn.to/39GTys4 ）上梓。

Born in Ehime prefecture in 1959. Graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University, and dropped out of the doctoral program after completing the master’s program at the same graduate school. In 1986, while still in graduate school, “Sign” won the Bungakukai Rookie of the Year Award. His masterpiece is “Crying Out Love in the Center of the World,” set in his hometown of Uwajima. Published in April 2001, in May 2004, the circulation reached 3.06 million, the highest number of books in Japan. He has written many books, including “The world moves without your knowledge,” “Don’t believe in John Lennon,” and “Looking at death and opening up life.”

小平尚典 Naonori Kohira

1954年北九州市小倉北区生まれ。 日本大学芸術学部写真学科卒業後渡英し社会派写真家としてデビュー。新潮社『FOCUS』創刊に参画し、御巣鷹山JAL墜落事故写真集「4/524」を新潮社から出版。1987年から米国西海岸に移住。ロングインパクトのIT革命の時代を担うPCビジョナリーを取材。
ビル・ゲイツやジョブスらを中心に新しく生まれたイノベーションを多目的に検証し、「Silicon Road」「e-face」を制作。2020年富士山ドローンサロン開設。現在は東京在住。公益社団法人日本写真家協会会員、早稲田大学理工学部非常勤講師。2021年8月、『あの日ジョブズは』上梓。

Born in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu in 1954. After graduating from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Photography, he moved to England and made his debut as a social photographer. Participated in the first issue of Shinchosha “FOCUS” and published a photo book “4/524” of Mt. Osutaka JAL crash from Shinchosha. Moved to the west coast of the United States from 1987. Covering the PC Visionaries that will lead the era of the long-impact IT revolution.
Produced “Silicon Road” and “e-face” by verifying newly born innovations centered on Bill Gates and Jobs for multiple purposes. 2020 Mt. Fuji drone salon opened. Currently living in Tokyo. He is a member of the Japan Professional Photographers Society and a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University.

Born in 1967. He became interested in personal computers around 1980 when he was a junior high school student and started to cover the front lines. When he was in high school, he was also invited to a Canon Dyna Mac launch event. After that, in 1990, while studying abroad at the University of Houston, Texas, he was in charge of serialization and news articles in Japanese personal computer magazines such as “Monthly MACPOWER” and “Monthly ASCII”, and started full-scale coverage of technology companies. On the other hand, he introduced Japanese technology culture to overseas media including “WIRED” in the United States. He continues to cover the latest trends in Internet infrastructure technology, IT business, smartphones, tablets, etc. according to the changing times, but from around 2005, he thought that technology alone could not create a good future, so he covered and enlightened good designs. He also shifted his focus to focusing on the social changes caused by technology rather than covering the technology itself. Now that AI and biotechnology are about to change the world’s values ​​again, he is expanding his coverage to areas such as art and traditional crafts under the theme of “what value should be left in the 22nd century”. Born in 1954. Grew up in Pelham NY just outside NYC. Became a friend of Steve Jobs at Reed College in Portland OR and traveled to India together for enlightenment. Did Apple I assembly and test in Jobs’ home garage in 1976. After graduating from Columbia College in 1977, he became Apple’s 12th full-time employee. Engaged in the development of Apple II, Apple III, and Macintosh. Wasn’t eligible for a stock option early on due to being an hourly technician. Jobs inexplicably declined to ever even discuss the matter. Later in 1982 Jobs became furious when Kottke unwittingly confirmed to Time mag reporter that Steve had a daughter named Lisa; never spoke to Kottke again for some 25 years. in the mid-80’s Woz was kind enough to give modest gifts of stock to Kottke and half a dozen others who’d been similarly ineligible in the early days. He is one of the precious witnesses of what Jobs was like in his youth.
